Thanksgiving Point to celebrate with luau

UVU’s Legacy Dance Company will turn Thanksgiving Point into a Polynesian luau on Monday at the Labor Day Luau.

Fire dancers, flaming tiki torches and island dancers are just some of the things that will be present at the luau.

“It’s a great way to spend the holiday with your family,” said Veronica Huebsch, the event manager for Thanksgiving Point.

UVU’s Legacy Dance Company will provide the main entertainment for the evening. The dancers come from a variety of islands including Tahiti, Samoa, New Zealand, Tonga, Hawaii and Fiji.

This will truly give those who attend the feeling of the tropics as they “experience the spirit of more than 290 islands,” according to their website, thanksgivingpoint.com.

Some firsts to the entertainment lineup this year include a fashion show and a “Keiki,” or children’s performance. Both of these will be performed by Polynesian children.

The luau will take place in front of the Waterfall Amphitheater, the largest man-made waterfall in the Western Hemisphere.

This will be the eighth annual luau and more than 2,000 people are expected to attend.

The menu will be served buffet style with the main course to include Kailua pork, teriyaki chicken, macaroni luau salad and fresh sliced watermelon and pineapple. The feast will be finished off with coconut banana cake.

“You get entertainment, dinner and 55 acres of magnificent gardens all for one great price,” Huebsch said.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the entertainment and Luau continuing until 8:30 that night.

Adult pre-sale price is $17, $20 the day of. Children’s pre-sale price is $12, $15 the day of.
